BALM Day 7

Today was a mixture of rest and short excursions. Though we didn't make it as far up in Door County as I was hoping (still well south of the famous fish boils) there were still memorable moments.

I promise this is the last mention of the Bikers for Jesus. They're not turning me into a religious freak (there has always been a meaning in my biking, as well as a kind of worship) they're just a nice group of kids. So I was glad to see a turn that the front runners had made for those in the back. The BFJ with the arrow to the right was faded, so the turn had likely been chalked the day before, and the BFJs are now one of those pleasant memories that you collect and save from a ride like this.

On HWY T near Whitefish Bay State Park is a bar and grill called the Hitching Post. The name seems out of place, as it reminds me of a western bar. A better place name would be something like the Fishing Hole, the Sinking Dock, or the Wrecking Shoals. But it was a good bar, nonetheless, with a great cheeseburger!

In the bathroom was a sticker from Vintage Vinyl, a famous record store right across the street from the Starbucks I go to every morning in University City, Missouri. The owners of the Hitching Post happened to be from Alton and Chesterfield, other towns in the St. Louis area. They're both big Cardinal fans, so we had a good time eating and talking about how great the red rids are playing!

The most exciting moment from today occurred when I tried to imagine the ride from 'Anders point of view. As you can see below, all the pictures come from them GoPro Hero2 on 'Ander's handlebars. What language would 'Anders have to describe them? What is his vocabulary? What are his concepts of space and time? How would 'Anders describe a field of dandelions? A grass of yellow light that blacks with the sun down? This is something I'll think more about in the days ahead. It would be fun to mix 'Anders point of view with mine.

Tonight thunderstorms are expected, and rain is forecast for the days ahead. But I keep saying any day on a bike is a good day.

Bug eyes looking.
Yellow jacket on path

Yellow splashing
Holes on sides holding water down
Fish up looking at yellow jacket
Moon rock
Red ants with wasp nest
Steel katydid
Gravel trail
A grass of yellow light that blacks with the sun down
Caterpillar crawling over water
Swarm of trees
White light
Locust and tree of yellow light
Hills with eyes
Bug looking down
