Eric is a great bike partner. We ride well together, and we don't mind
splitting up and meeting somewhere down the road. Over the years of
biking together, we've never lost one another. Eric does have a unique
quality. Though he's very leisurely in the morning, once he's on his
bike he likes to get to the next point fast. We were coming up to
Atlanta yesterday and Eric was wanting to take a short cut bypass, but
i said the purpose of the trip was to follow 66, which he admitted to,
and so we passed through Atlanta, with the unique signage below. Even
Eric was happy with pictures that he took.

Okay, I'll offer another perspective. We do bike well together--at our own pace, etc. But let me say that Richard is downright ambitious in the morning--his alarm went off at 4:30 am yesterday. I slept until a liesurly 5:30.
And there was no shortcut. We were on the outer road--staight as can be for miles and exacty where the map said we should be. . A sign happened to say Route 66 (pointing to a detour to the right). Yes, I'm glad we took the detour, but I did not seek a short cut.
Now for Richard's unique biking qualities. He can't pass up a store or a fast food joint without stopping--sometimes only a few miles apart.
This is why we get along so well; we respect each other's uniqueness and do our own thing. We simply meet up later down the road.
