Kinsley, KS

The 24 miles here to Kinsley were great--a slight wind out of the north pushing me along at almost 12 MPH. The storm last night, with hail and almost 4 inches of rain is history. Still, it's good fortune that my tent stayed dry. I must have pitched it on high ground--most of the park was flooded. This morning at the Qwik Stop where I went to get coffee and fill my water bottles, Deanna from the Pawnee Rock CoOp saw me and was genuinely happy that I was dry and still trekking.

Half way here to Kinsley I stopped at the Garfield CoOp where I was given free coffee. A local who raises elk asked, "Want some breakfast with that?" and gave a stick of elk meat. It was spicy delicious.

Kansans are good folk.
