Shadenfreude - "pleasure taken from someone else's misfortune." From German shaden - harm, damage, and freude - joy.
Seems like you've run into some of those pesky shadenfreuders. Why anyone would take pleasure from rain messing with your trek is beyond me. I'm wishing you blue sky all the way, and rain only when YOU want rain.
It appears that you are about half way across Kansas - that is tremendous. If you look carefully you may see an occasional wheat field along the way. Keep the faith my friend, you are going to make it to California.
Avery had a birthday party yesterday, she is now 3 years old.

Thanks so much for the picture from Ottawa! Janet and I visited the campus, tried to buy a t-shirt at the bookstore, which turned out to be closed that day, but didn't get a photo.
Osage-Herington-Lincolnville -- home country! Both my Mom and Dad were born and raised in Osage City. One aunt and a couple of cousins still live there. One of my brothers was born in Herington. At that time, we lived in Burdick, which is about six or seven miles south of Herington and the same distance east of Lincolnville. I got my first haircut at Lincolnville. The barber gave soft, thick, buttery mints as treats, even to little boys who cried, as I did.
I've never understood why many pushing west through the rolling hills have found that country "boring." I'm sure you'll appreciate the waves of Kansas better than anybody blowing by in his SUV. Unlike the Shadenfreude Ann acknowledges, I am excited by your success. And embarrassed. Time to get off it and go to the Y!
