Bad Day
It took me almost three hours to reach the town of La Veta, CO, and the pass hadn't even begun. I had no energy in my legs and I was having trouble breathing. I just couldn't viasualize climbing the pass, so out of sorts I called Ann, who suggested I turn back to the park from last night, recoup for the day, and consider an alternate route around the mountains. I'm now back in the park. I'll pitch my tent, ride into Walsenburg for a good meal, then come up with Plan B.

Hi Richard -
I'm Tedi, Ann's coworker from Colorado Springs. Just read your posting and wanted to give you some words of encouragement. If you need a PLAN C - my husband and I are going through Walsenburg and La Veta on Hwy 160 on our way to the Sand Dunes on Friday morning. We could pick you up and take you over the pass. (Last resort, I know - 3 days is a long time to wait!). Phone 719-776-8012 (work). Hang in there - this is the hardest part of the trek!
